Partner Branch Frequently Asked Questions
What products will I be able to offer?
Our platform is basically conforming and government loans. We offer Fannie, Freddie, FHA, VA and RD products along with unique options such as the Reverse Mortgage program.
Does AmeriFirst operate as a correspondent or a broker?
AmeriFirst Home Mortgage is a mortgage banker. In most cases, we underwrite and close our own loans.
Will AmeriFirst Home Mortgage process my loans?
We can; it is your option. We have an exceptional processing center located in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
If I already have an established working relationship with a lender, will I be able to continue working with them?
AmeriFirst Home Mortgage maintains relationships with an extensive number of lenders and we are committed to continuously expanding our lender database to best serve you. You may not initiate a broker agreement directly with a lender. If you feel that we need a particular lender unique to your business, please contact Melissa in our Gaylord office to begin the approval process.
Can I originate in states other than my home state?
Yes. As an employee of AmeriFirst Home Mortgage, you may originate in the states where we are licensed. AmeriFirst Home Mortgage is currently licensed in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Florida, Minnesota, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Please note: Origination of loans in a state where the Loan Officer has not met the state requirements is prohibited.
What experience is required?
We prefer a minimum of three years of mortgage industry experience for Branch Managers and two years experience for Loan Originators.
Does AmeriFirst require office space?
We prefer that all of our branches operate in a professional space. Some states will not allow you to operate in your home. We want offices to be clearly identified to the public and be staffed and equipped to deal with clients in a professional manner.
Will I be allowed to use the AmeriFirst Home Mortgage name and logo on my business card?
Yes. As an employee of AmeriFirst Home Mortgage, you will actually be required to.
Can I use a name other than AmeriFirst Home Mortgage?
Partners will operate as AmeriFirst Financial Corporation or under a DBA. DBAs will be approved on a branch by branch basis.
What promotional items are available to my branch?
An array of promotional materials are available through our Human Resource Department. These are considered expense items and will be charged to your branch.
How long is the approval process?
It will depend on the state requirements for licensing, leasing space, etc. There is no usual time frame due to factors beyond our control, but we work diligently to complete the process as quickly as possible.
What equipment is required?
Each branch office will need computer capability, phones, copier and other standard business equipment. All of these items will be considered in your budget.
Do I need to create a budget for my branch?
We will work together as a team and construct a budget for your branch using a pro-forma spreadsheet to create a tailor-made budget.
Will my branch be required to maintain a reserve account?
We think that it is prudent for our partners to put away some reserves to cover fixed expenses.
How do I get paid?
Our partner offices are set up independently. Your income can be a portion of profits, a per loan basis or both.
Can an originator elect to be on a 1099?
All employees will be paid on a W-2 basis.
Who pays my expenses?
As a business partner, all expenses related to the branch will be paid out of your gross revenues.
What benefits are available?
Medical, dental and life and disability insurances are available to all personnel. In addition, we also offer a 401k retirement plan.
