Tips to Make the Best of Your Floor Installation Project
The following tips are categorized in the flow that you will carry out your installation project:Visualize First, Start Later
This is true with any project! It is always wise to start by creating a plan or blueprint of your project. So, before you buy floor tiles and start installing it think about the layout and pattern of the tiles that you want to install. Visit a tile showroom or an online platform to visualize better and choose tiles that suit your imagination and final blueprint.
Measure to get it right
Take the right measurements of the room to get the right quantity of tiles needed. Also, it is advised that you always purchase 10% - 15% extra in case of any damages. You surely do not want to end up with a shortage of tiles during the installation process. Make use of online calculators to get the exact number of tiles needed for your room. In case the room has an uneven design, divide it into sections and consider them as separate rooms during measurements and calculations.
Purchase the right ones
Not only that you should take care of extra tile count further you should work on the kind of texture, pattern, color and size for that best decor. With such meticulous planning, you will be able to have that desired décor and style in your home. Use of large tiles in a small room can lead to the tiles dominating it and small tiles in large rooms will result in the tiles losing its presence in the room. Tiles with a glossy finish can be slippery and can lead to accidents so you can think of purchasing ones with texture.
Sub floor preparation
This step creates the basis for the optimum installation of floor tiles. Make sure the sub floor is cleaned thoroughly and free of any debris. Also, ensure that it is flat and free of any low spots by filling it with concrete compound. Use chalk to create guide lines on the floor parallel to the wall and to mark the center of the room that can help you later to install the tile efficiently.
Laying the Tiles
Start applying mortar from the center of the room based on the lines created in the previous step and move towards the edges of the room such that you end up at the doorway and don’t have to walk over the laid tiles. Ensure to have an even application of the mortar and remove any excess mortar from the surface. While placing the tile on the mortar press it down slightly and twist it so that it sets perfectly. Use tile spacers to set the tile perfectly parallel to each other and remove any excess mortar that is seeping through gaps. Allow it to dry for at least 24 hours. Once dry, measure the edges and cut tiles to install them at the edges of the room.
Grout Floor tiles
Finish the installation by using grout to fill the gaps between tiles. Leave it to dry for at least 20 minutes. Clean up all the excess grout on the tiles and finish the installation by sealing the grout with a sealer adhesive.
Keep these simple tips and steps in mind to make your DIY floor tiles installation project a success!
