Mortgage Technology Is Moving Quickly

Posted by Rick Koenig on Feb 23, 2017 10:16:39 AM

Mortgage software has changed dramatically in just the last 2 years.

The first loan origination systems came out in the 1980s.  We evolved from only the processors having desk top computers to today’s loan officers having a mobile app to share that can help a borrower request a pre-approval letter, submit an application, check a loan status, upload documents and communicate with the LO's team. Today’s latest technological advances in mobile applications and data gathering have some companies scrambling to keep up with the “spaceship mortgage” seen on TV.

I’m not sure anyone has a system that goes from start to finish with one software. It's not seamless, and it's not perfect moving from interface to interface.   Anyone who claims to have a start to finish solution, are using other venders and services to piece together the process.  For the mortgage industry and its technology to continue to improve and evolve, lenders require more integration and cooperation between the systems companies they use.

Sensationalizing Everything.  Rates Soar!  Really?

Posted by Rick Koenig on Feb 16, 2017 5:40:00 AM

Since 1971 interest rates on the Freddie Mac 30-year fixed rate have averaged 8.0%.

In the world of journalism, having an eye-catching teaser as the headline is sometimes more important than accurately portraying what the story is about.

What do I mean by sensationalizing the news?

Weapons of Mass Origination…

Posted by Patrick McNally on Feb 15, 2017 4:30:00 AM

There is no shortage of programs, marketing ideas, seminars, webinars, trainers and consultants who want to tell you how to originate more loans, all, of course, for a very “reasonable” cost.

What if I could show you a way to increase your closed loan volume and it would actually cost you LESS in both money AND your time? Would you read the rest of this to find out more about something like that?

Are Builder/Realtor-Owned Mortgage Companies Really “Institutionalized MSAs”?

Posted by Rick Koenig on Feb 10, 2017 4:30:00 AM

What does institutionalized mean?

It’s an established practice or custom as part of an official organization.

What’s is the definition of an MSA?

MSA stands for Marketing Service Agreement but…since the CFPB said it sees MSAs as a tool for kickbacks that can be abused, it means trouble in my vocabulary.

Did You Read The Paper Today?

Posted by Rick Koenig on Feb 3, 2017 5:06:00 AM

What if you woke up today and this was in your local paper? (or more likely the web) about your company:

  • CFPB\RESPA Actions for Illegal Kickbacks against a Mortgage Lender, Two Real Estate Brokers and a Mortgage Servicer.

I saw someone write recently “the noose continues to tighten" concerning what constitutes an acceptable Marketing Service Agreement (MSA). When are companies going to listen?

If you thought a new presidency meant immediate changes in regulations, you may want to read about another CFPB Enforcement recently announced: (Read it Here)
