Amerifirst Home Mortgage’s Laura Sherrod First Recipient of MBA's Markison Achievement Award

KALAMAZOO, MI (September 20, 2018) – Amerifirst Home Mortgage’s Laura Sherrod took center stage this week at the Mortgage Bankers Association Regulatory Compliance Conference in Washington, D.C., where she became the first recipient of an award to mark excellence in mortgage industry compliance.


Laura Sherrod2The Ken Markison Legacy Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in pursuit of the Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional (CMCP) certificate and designation, shown dedication to MBA, and have demonstrated excellence in the regulatory compliance field and the real estate finance industry.


Sherrod is Director of Servicing Compliance and Learning Development at Amerifirst, headquartered in Kalamazoo, MI. She joined the company in 2010 and has provided direction and oversight for servicing, compliance, policies and procedures and e-learning courses, in progressive management roles.  


“Laura is a true advocate for consumers and a leader in identifying and implementing systems, resources and tools to increase borrow satisfaction,” said Amerifirst Co-Founder and Co-CEO Mark Jones. “She has also provided guidance and support to the Mortgage Bankers Association in its endeavor to provide credentialing for the finance industry, which will increase the efficacy of services provided to consumers throughout the industry. We are so proud of her accomplishments and to have her as a member of our Amerifirst family.”


This award was named for Ken Markison, following his retirement from the Mortgage Bankers Association in 2017. Markison was the principal architect behind MBA's Compliance Essentials program and one of America’s leading experts in government housing regulations.

"Laura was not only instrumental in the development of Level I of the CMCP as an active and constructive pilot tester for the Level I courses, Laura was also the first person to pass Level I of the CMCP and did so with consistently excellent scores."
