Amerifirst Introduces New Business Unit to Serve Hispanic Community

Growing Hispanic population will have new opportunities to achieve homeownership

KALAMAZOO, MI (August 4, 2020) - Amerifirst Financial Corporation, an independent residential mortgage lender, today announced the creation of a new bilingual mortgage service division - Ameriuno - that will cater to Orlando’s growing Spanish-speaking population.

“With our industry experience, focus on customer service, and history of reaching underserved consumers, creating this new resource was a natural progression for us,” said Dave Gahm, CEO and co-founder of Amerifirst Home Mortgage. “The Hispanic community is one of the fastest-growing groups of homeowners in the U.S., yet they still face special challenges in getting mortgages and becoming homeowners. We know we can make a difference.”

These obstacles can include language barriers, information gaps about home buying and mortgage qualification processes, and lack of relationships and trust of financial institutions. As a result, many Hispanic consumers think homeownership is unaffordable or too complicated. Ameriuno will offer resources to help combat these barriers to homeownership, including Spanish-speaking team members, financial education, coaching, and access to home loan products specifically designed for first-time homebuyers.

“We’re local, and we believe it’s vital that we understand the importance of different cultures in our community,” added Doug Long, Amerifirst Southeast Division President. “By the end of the decade, over 50 percent of first-time homebuyers will be Hispanic, and we want to be here for them. Now that we have the right people and resources in place, we can focus on educating and empowering our Hispanic customers so that they can be confident and successful in reaching their homeownership goals.”

Heading up the 8-member bilingual team at the Winter Park, FL, location is Flavio Espinal Nunez, Operations Manager. A native of the Dominican Republic, Flavio says he is super-

excited to be with a company that is 100 percent invested in the Hispanic community.

“Many Hispanics will not apply for home loan financing because they don’t understand the mortgage process, and they don’t have anyone to explain it to them in their language,” he said. “They need someone to help them understand how everything works. That’s what we’re doing.”

The full-service home loan center will provide Spanish translation and resources for a wide range of purchase, refinance, renovation, and construction mortgage options. These include government-backed programs (FHA, USDA, and VA) that enable many renters to qualify for a home loan through their flexible credit guidelines, low down payment options, and lower overall costs. Consumers can also access a new Spanish-language website, Ameriuno.com, to learn more about the homebuying process.
