Michigan State Housing Development Authority recognizes Amerifirst for sixth straight year
KALAMAZOO, MI (February 21, 2020) - Amerifirst Home Mortgage was recently named a top producing lender in the state of Michigan for 2019 by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
This marks the sixth consecutive year that the community mortgage lender has been recognized by MSHDA for its achievements in helping homebuyers overcome down payment obstacles and obtain the dream of homeownership. Amerifirst partners with MSHDA to provide low-interest home loans, payment assistance programs, and federal tax credits to eligible Michigan residents.
“So many people live paycheck to paycheck,” said Mark Bynum, a loan officer with Amerifirst in Port Huron and a top producing loan officer for the MSHDA program for two straight years. “This program is a dream come true for many renters who don’t have the ability to save for a down payment or closing costs.”
MSHDA released a Homeownership Special Announcement on Feb. 10th naming the top ten Michigan lenders that states, “Because of your commitment to providing affordable housing solutions in your community, 4,849 families realized their dream of homeownership. The impact you have made is immeasurable and this success wouldn’t have been possible without you.”
Amerifirst was the fourth top producing MSHDA lender in Michigan for 2019. This is the sixth consecutive year that Amerifirst has placed in the top ten producing lenders in the state. In 2016, it was named the number one producing MSHDA lender in Michigan.
MSHDA also announced its select group of Top Producing Loan Officers for 2019, which includes five Amerifirst loan officers. They are:
Central Region and Upper Peninsula:
Mark Bynum, Port Huron
Northern Region:
Jim Emmendorfer, Gaylord
Western Region:

In addition, Amerifirst was recognized as #3 in the top five MSHDA Mortgage Credit Certificate Issuing Lenders for 2019. This program allows borrowers to credit 20% of their mortgage interest each year on federal taxes for the life of their mortgage.
“This program gives renters an opportunity to buy their first home that they otherwise might not have,” added Bynum. “We love helping to make that happen.”
