Amerifirst Recognized as Top Rural Lender by US Department of Agriculture

June is National Homeownership Month

KALAMAZOO, MI (June 9, 2020) – In a press release issued today by the Michigan Office of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Amerifirst Home Mortgage was lauded for its continued commitment to helping individuals and families buy and own affordable homes in rural America.

“Working with our partner lenders, USDA is helping rural Michigan families achieve the dream of home ownership,” said Jason Allen, USDA Rural Development State Director for Michigan, in the release. “Hundreds of lenders have participated in the program and it would be difficult to recognize them all, but I congratulate our leading lenders, Amerifirst Home Mortgage, Flagstar Bank, Polaris Home Funding and Mortgage 1, on their years of commitment to this program.”

Amerifirst partners with the USDA to provide zero-down payment and low-interest home loans to eligible residents in rural and suburban areas who might not otherwise qualify for a home mortgage. In 2019, Amerifirst was recognized by the USDA as the Top Producing Lender of Rural Development Loans in the State of Michigan and as a top-ten rural housing lender nationally.

“We have always embraced the USDA Rural Development program as we share their philosophy that well-built affordable housing is essential to the vitality of communities in rural America,” said Mark Jones, CEO and co-founder of Amerifirst Home Mortgage and a board member of the Mortgage Bankers Association. “As a mortgage company we know that homeownership continues to be an important avenue for building wealth in the U.S., for ensuring safety and security, and for upward mobility and success.”

The release also says that in Fiscal Year 2019, USDA in Michigan invested more than $571 million to help 4,445 families and individuals buy a home. USDA also provided $2.4 million for home repairs to 435 low-income rural residents.  Since the guaranteed loan program began in 1991, Michigan has obligated more than 100,000 loans totaling more than $10 billion, becoming the first state in the country to reach either of these milestones.
