KALAMAZOO, MI (January 31, 2018) – Many families who are caring for a critically ill or injured child have one less thing to worry about thanks to the work of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) Open Doors Foundation, supported by Amerifirst Home Mortgage. Launched in October 2011, the non-profit organization assists families with critically ill or injured children around the country by providing mortgage assistance grants to help them keep their homes in the face of significant medical expenses.
Amerifirst CEO and Co-Founder Mark Jones was appointed to the MBA Board of Directors in 2016 and immediately embraced the Foundation’s efforts to promote and defend sustainable housing for American families. Amerifirst supports the Foundation at the $35,000 Champion level.
“Our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and we are excited to be involved with an organization that so closely aligns with our culture here at Amerifirst,” he said. “For parents who are already burdened with significant medical bills and who are struggling to cope with their child’s medical crisis, this program helps provide relief and assurance that they will continue to find safe harbor in the stability and comfort of their homes.”
The home grant program provides mortgage and rental assistance payment grants to parents and guardians, allowing them to take unpaid leave from work and focus on the needs of their child without jeopardizing their obligation to make monthly mortgage payments. Now in its fifth operating year, MBA Open Doors has assisted nearly 1,600 families by providing $1.9 million in housing assistance. It partners with hospitals in 35 states and the District of Columbia, and has plans to grow into other states as well.
MBA is the national association representing the real estate finance industry on behalf of its 2,200 members.
