Mortgage competitor with similar name is causing confusion among consumers and media
KALAMAZOO, MI (May 3, 2021) - Michigan-based Amerifirst Financial Corporation announced today that its customers’ financial data is safe and has not been compromised by a security breach that affected a west coast mortgage competitor who operates under a similar name.
Amerifirst Financial Corporation is headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Founded in 1983, it offers full-service residential mortgage services across the nation through its Amerifirst Home Mortgage and Ameritrust Home Mortgage divisions. Services are provided in Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
In California, Amerifirst Financial Corporation operates a division under the name “Ameritrust Home Mortgage” to avoid confusion with AmeriFirst Financial, Inc., which also operates in the southwest region, and was the target of the Dec. 2 – 10 data breach.
In a release dated April 29th, The National Law Review reported that AmeriFirst Financial, Inc. (not to be confused with Amerifirst Financial Corporation) discovered its breach on April 12th, 2021. It operates branches in California, Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Utah.
